EUROPE

  Austria  >>

A beautiful country that is meticulously clean.  Vienna is a fun European city to visit.

Snow storm in northern Austria. A pleasant day at the Glorietta in Vienna.

  Belgium  >>

Belgium is a typical European city with a number of canals through the capital Brugge (pronounced "Brooj").  Mussels are definitely the local food.

The capital city of Brugge. A pleasant day at the Glorietta in Vienna.

  Czech  >>

I would have to give Prague a "must see" recommendation for the enchanting qualities of its city center.  The architecture is incredible and there are lots of local artisans to buy from.

Prague's city center. Prague is situated on the Vltava river.

  Denmark  >>

Denmark is an excellent Scandinavian country with lots to see and do when the weather is nice!
A famous site. My friend owned a windmill!

  England  >>

England is great to visit.  Even though the language is the same, it is still a "foreign" country with many differences.

Ryanair is the way to travel throughout Europe, and they are based north of London.

The Tower Bridge at night. Stonehenge (in the middle of nowhere!)

  France  >>

France is definitely worth a visit, but you have to be ready for the attitude.  They basically don't have much patience for non-French (or rusty French) speakers.  Accept that it is nothing personal, then enjoy all there is to see and do!

The Eiffel Tower as it is lit up at night. Nice has a huge beach boardwalk.

  Georgia  >>

Just wow.  The city was still bombed out, it was dangerous to stray far, and the electricity/utilities were intermittent.  A once in a lifetime opportunity to visit!

This was the street with our lodging! The interiors were secretively nice.

  Germany  >>

Germany is a great location.  It is clean and the people are surprisingly friendly.  It would be very hard to find a bad restaurant in Germany.  It is also very centrally located for travel throughout Europe.

Neuschwastein Castle: The inspiration for Walt Disney's Cinderella castle. I just love the little town of Annweiler, but it is so difficult to choose a favorite!

  Greece  >>

Greece is very photographic, and in particular, Santorini has got to be my all time favorite photo destination.

The Parthenon at night. A pastel evening in Santorini.

  Holland  >>

Overall, Holland's flat country is reminiscent of the Midwestern US.  The historic windmills are picturesque and Amsterdam definitely has "something for everyone"!

The windmills are a national treasure. Massive screws for pumping water!

  Hungary  >>

Hungary has a rich heritage with beautiful country charm and magnificent European architecture in Budapest.

Budapest is actually two cities that straddle the Danube. Hungary is a pleasant mix of modern and traditional.

  Iceland  >>

Iceland is full of rugged beauty.  However, I spent 3 weeks during July and this was the single nice day!

The awe-inspiring waterfall Gulfoss.  Note size of person at upper left rainbow.

There is so much to see from fishing villages to houses overrun with lava, glaciers and geysers!

  Italy  >>

Northern Italy is full of picturesque cities, many with waterways through the center of town. Rome and Venice are both a "must see".  I still need to go back and visit more!

A night shot on a canal through the city of Sacile (pronounced "sa-chili") The waterways of Venice.

  Luxembourg  >>

Luxembourg is a wealthy city/state.  I particularly enjoy the chasm that runs through the city.  My favorite are the restaurants along the Moselle bordering Germany.

Not the best of pictures, but a view toward the center of the city. The chasm in the middle of Lux.

Poland  >> Poland is as beautiful as any country in Europe, but what is striking is the communist era block houses mixed in with the traditional European designs.
Town square. Bell tower in beautiful cathedral.

Romania  >> Romania is still like the "wild west".  There are a lot of gypsies (hold on to your wallet), and large divide between wealthy and poor.
The Parliament Palace.  The world's largest civil and most expensive bldg. Donkey power is still a common sight!

Scotland  >> Scotland is a land of greenery and castles.  Even though they speak English, it can be difficult to understand.
Edinburgh is an easy and beautiful city to walk. The parks are beautiful.

Slovenia  >> I would classify Slovenia as a gem!  It is not well known, but the infrastructure is modern, the people are friendly and it is picturesque.
I stopped for pictures and spoke with a resident in German.  His house was 700 yrs old and the town was 900! Ljubljana has the charm of most European capital cities.

Switzerland  >> I could live in Switzerland!  It is gorgeous and the hiking is fantastic.  Admittedly, I've never been so cold as I was in Zurich during winter!
Winters are cold but still beautiful. Grindelwald has got to be the single most idyllic location I've ever seen.
